Moving Conversations generates lively debate

An interactive summary of the 12 presentations made at the Creative Approaches conference.  Each speaker had one clip from the NLS Scottish Screen Archive to inform and enliven their presentation.  It was a huge success.

Trading with the Far West

Having produced a series of Moving Conversations at the Edinburgh Fringe a few years back, I am bringing my 'intelligent entertainment' format to the 2011 Edinburgh International Festival. www.eif.co.uk/trading From popular culture to the altar of high art - Moving Conversations knows no bounds!

In line with the theme of EIF 2011 - To the Far West - we are bringing together business gurus to discuss the rich tradition of trading links between Scotland and Asia. As well as a Director of HSBC [yet to be confirmed], the line-up for Trading with the Far West includes:

Ian Ritchie CBE - technology entrepreneur and mentor to many Scottish start-ups.

Michael Ward - a Scottish expat Bollywood film producer! Planning a full length feature of The Far Pavilions.

Professor Catherine Schenk - expert on the history of Chinese financial services and chronicler of the rise of HSBC.

John Callaghan - CEO of pt Hero, Indonesia's biggest supermarket chain and part of the Jardine Matheson trading empire.

As it is a Moving Conversation, each panellist will come armed with an entertaining clip from the Scottish Screen Archive http://ssa.nls.uk/ around which they will build a compelling argument. It promises to be entertaining and enlightening - worth seeing for its unique historical value, let alone the views of a diverse and engaging panel.

Trading with the Far West is a one off show at The Filmhouse, Edinburgh, 2.30pm on Friday 19th August. We are in Screen 2, which seats 100 - so book early! Tickets are available at £6 through http://www.eif.co.uk/, the Hub or Filmhouse box offices, from 2nd April.

Moving Conversations Moves London Audiences

Moving Conversations, the event format that combines lively debate with TV and film clips is launching in London on 24th March. The format, created by Futurist Cinema [www.futuristcinema.com], brings together subject experts and clips from ITN Source [www.itnsource.com], the worlds biggest broadcast footage library, for lively debates with invited audiences. Over the past 18 months, Moving Conversations have been run in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dublin and Liverpool and covered a huge array of subjects including renewable energy, fast food, business, banking, digital entertainment, media, the oil industry, cities of the future and the economy. The format has been used by Ernst & Young, McGrigors, Bank of Scotland and RenewableUK to engage with customers, partners and influencers in a new and refreshing way.

Michael Groves, Director of Futurist Cinema said: "The format hinges on the breadth and depth of the ITN Source archive, which is phenomenal. The clips inject a strong element of entertainment into the debate and really help to bring the panellists arguments alive. Audiences love it and are drawn into the debate in a way that standard presentations are not able to do."

On 24th March, a Moving Conversation will debate the future of Britains cities at the Institution of Civil Engineers. The event is hosted by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Heriot-Watt and Cambridge Universities and brings together business, government, NGOs and academia to look into the future of the UK urban environment. The expert panel includes Paul Morrell [the UK government's construction czar], Martin Powell from the London Assembly, Geoff Mulgan from the Young Foundation, Peter Heath from Atkins and Professor Peter Guthrie from Cambridge University. Order will be maintained by Professor Paul Jowitt, the President of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
